I Tried Prime Prometics vs. Peter Thomas Roth—Here’s Which Eye Tightener I’d Buy Again

I’m a mom of three with two cats, so I’ve accepted that there are mornings when my under-eyes are going to tell the entire story of the night before. And as much as I love skincare, I’m also realistic: Sometimes I don’t want to wait weeks to see a difference. I want to look a little more awake now.

That’s what made me curious about Prime Prometics PrimeLift Instant Eye Tightener and Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx Eye Temporary Eye Tightener. Both promise a temporary tightening effect that helps smooth the appearance of under-eye bags, fine lines, and wrinkles. But after comparing the two, one worked better for what I actually want from an instant eye product.

Here’s how they stacked up.

1. Instant Results: Prime Prometics

First things first: If I’m buying something called an instant eye tightener, I expect to see something happen pretty quickly.

PrimeLift delivers visible tightening and depuffing in under two minutes. I noticed that my under-eye area looked smoother and more refreshed without having to wait around forever for the product to set.

Peter Thomas Roth also delivers an impressive temporary tightening effect. Sephora reports that in a clinical study of 25 women ages 36 to 65, all participants showed improvement in the look of under-eye puffiness after three minutes.

Both worked quickly, but I preferred how effortless PrimeLift felt. When I’m getting three kids out the door, feeding two cats, and somehow trying to make myself presentable too, saving even a few minutes counts.

Winner: Prime Prometics

2. Makeup Compatibility: Prime Prometics

This category mattered more to me than I expected.

I love makeup almost as much as skincare, so I don’t want an eye treatment that forces me to choose between the two or pills under my makeup. PrimeLift dries down invisibly with no white cast and is designed to work seamlessly with or without makeup. Peter Thomas Roth can also be worn with makeup, but its application requires a bit more precision to get the best results.

For my everyday routine, I found PrimeLift more forgiving and easier to incorporate without having to think too much about how my makeup would interact with it.

Winner: Prime Prometics

3. Formula for Mature-Looking Skin: Prime Prometics

This is where PrimeLift really started separating itself for me.

I don’t just want something that temporarily tightens my skin. The under-eye area is delicate, and anything that leaves it looking dry or crepey defeats the purpose.

PrimeLift was created with mature skin in mind. Its BioLift6 Complex™ combines six peptides with caffeine, and the formula also contains squalane to help keep the under-eye area hydrated.

That combination appealed to the skincare lover in me. I’m getting the instant cosmetic effect I wanted, but the formula doesn’t feel like tightening is its only job.

Peter Thomas Roth has skincare ingredients of its own, including its Firm-A-Tite™ blend for temporary tightening as well as peptide and botanical complexes. But for my skin and priorities, PrimeLift’s combination of tightening plus hydration gave it the edge.

Winner: Prime Prometics

4. Price & Value: Tie

Here’s one category where I genuinely don’t think there’s a dramatic difference.

At the time of writing, PrimeLift is $35, while Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx is $39 at Sephora.

Four dollars isn’t enough for me to choose one skincare product over another, especially when both are designed to provide a similar temporary eye-tightening effect.

PrimeLift does give me a little more versatility for my money because it can also be applied to forehead and mouth lines. On the other hand, Peter Thomas Roth is only a few dollars more, so if you already know and love the brand, I don’t think its price is unreasonable.

For me, this one comes down to which formula and application experience you prefer rather than the number on the price tag.

Winner: Tie

5. Ease of Use: Prime Prometics

As a mom, “easy to use” might be one of my most important beauty categories.

PrimeLift has a cooling metal applicator, which immediately makes the experience feel a little more luxurious. I especially love that cooling sensation on mornings when my eyes look extra puffy.

And the routine is simple: apply it, give it a couple of minutes to dry, and move on with your day.

Peter Thomas Roth isn’t difficult to use, but it requires applying a very small amount to completely dry skin and remaining expressionless for approximately five minutes while it dries.

Could I do that? Of course. Do I want another beauty product that requires me to follow a mini instruction manual at 7 a.m.? Not particularly.

Winner: Prime Prometics

My Overall Winner: Prime Prometics

Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx is a legitimate competitor, and I understand why it has become such a recognizable name in the instant-tightening category. It works quickly, targets many of the same concerns, and at $39, it’s priced fairly close to PrimeLift.

But for my routine, Prime Prometics PrimeLift Instant Eye Tightener wins overall.

I like that I can see visible tightening and depuffing in under two minutes, that it dries without a white cast, and that I can comfortably incorporate it into a makeup day. I also appreciate that the formula combines its temporary tightening effect with six peptides, caffeine, and hydrating squalane—and that I can use it on forehead and mouth lines too. Prime Prometics says those visible tightening results can last for up to five hours.

I love that you can pair it with the under-eye corrector for 10% off. It’s the ultimate duo for under-eye bag treatment.

I love beauty and skincare, but between three kids, two cats, cooking, biking, and everything else that fills my days, I’m past the point of wanting products that make my routine more complicated. I want products that are quick, easy, effective and help me look refreshed.

For me, PrimeLift is that product.
